Friday Femmes Fatales No 57
Ten great posts from 10 new (to me) women bloggers. It is here every Friday (more or less ..)
To begin, a cautionary tale about a stalker and an unwise encounter, on Letters from a Broad. Exes who want “one last” something are seldom a good idea, in my experience, even if it was never anything like this bad.
On Unsane and Safe, Jennifer considers differences in the view of self in the West and Africa. Staying on the continent, Sylvia, ticklethepear, reflects on the different experiences of male and female Peace Corps members.
Clare Dudman on Keeper of the Snails (no I didn’t find an explanation), is thinking about ways to increase happiness. (Banning advertising comes into it.)
Belle on Smatterings has turned paparazzi, but the subjects of her attention, some famous babies, aren’t too upset. Staying pictorial, Sabine in Germany, on Not All Cats Are Grey, has a running track that we might all envy. But didn’t she have to stop to take the pictures?
Then — not a blog to be read when hungry — Adriana on What I Made for Dinner had a day off for Mother’s Day, although she still ate very well, judging by the pictures. It gave her a chance to reflect on her mother’s hard work. The author of Tiny Bubbles has also been enjoying the perfect meal.
On mothers, the “Chief Biscuit” on As It Happens has a poem for her mother, and a brief account of her mother’s life.
Finally, on Diary of a Goldfish, the said Goldfish has been having bad luck with laptops (I’m carefully avoiding the obvious line here), but she enjoyed a pleasant day of nostalgia and nature anyway.

Please: In the next week if you read, or write, a post by a woman blogger and think “that deserves a wider audience†(particularly someone who doesn’t yet get many hits), drop a comment. It really does make my life easier. (Thanks to Holly and Penny this week!)

Hey, thanks for including me in your roundup!!!
My stalker memoir has two more installments coming up, and then I’m going to post a wrap-up talking about how the relationship started and why I think it’s useful to post this story.
In a nutshell, the point is that when you’ve had a relationship with someone for a certain length of time, you want to believe him when he says that some violent or threatening behavior was some sort of anomaly — not like him at all — and won’t happen again.
I’m not saying to go around being fearful all the time, but rather just be careful.

This is a great analysis – well done!
Can I bring to your attention AK Comics of Egypt who produce ‘Middle East Heroes’ which has just started being distributed through Diamond.
AK Comics is the only comic book company that has a written equal opportunities policy for its heroes and villains (it’s true!)

Win a year’s subscription by designing a new team of Middle East Heroes and sending your entry to akcomicsuk@aol.com
Remember that half the team must be female.

Speaking now as a regular reader of your blog – and not as the UK Marketing guy for AK Comics, I just wanted to say how much I genuinely enjoy this blog – and the range of links are terrific.
I am a male feminist (no, there is no contradiction there), also a Green Party member, and I admire all the effort you put into your work.
I have a couple of suggestions that might make interesting articles for you in the future (in the world of journalism):
The story of the Song Sisters in turn of the century China;
Queen Kahina of the Berbers.
Queen Amina of Dahomey.
Best wishes

Thanks very much for the mention, Natalie!
I’m ‘Keeper of the snails’ because my surname is DUDMAN. The old English word for snails was HODMANDOD so the keeper of the snails was known as DODMAN or DUDMAN.
That is one explanation for my surname – the other is that it might mean ‘The cuckolded one’ – but I’m ignoring that.
Also I share my house with three men…
