Enough already. Please!

Over on My London Your London I have a review of Walking on Water at the White Bear Theatre. Great acting, a decently written script, but why oh why does the scenario have to be that old, despressing, “family abuse finally uncovered” as abused, damaged women get together. It’s supposed to be a comedy – no doubt someone will call it a “black comedy”, but I really needed that interval drink to get through the second act!

But didn’t you suspect it was likely to be like that, with the dreary theme – at least after you had heard the first half confirm your suspicions? I’m rather surprised you did return for the second act after the interval.

Another drink or two would have seemed a better use of the rest of your wasted evening!

The PR material, probably wisely, didn’t explain the theme – and I wouldn’t have done the interval walkout to the actors (it is a _very_ small theatre so every empty seat would be obvious), even if it were not for the reviewers’ obligation to tough it out – and I’ve done that through much worse than this!
