State-mandated rape
No, I don’t think that is too strong a term for a new law in Oklahoma, which directs that doctors perform an ultrasound on women requesting an abortion:
The law states that either an abdominal or vaginal ultrasound, whichever gives the best image of the fetus, must be done. Neither the patient nor the doctor can decide which type of ultrasound to use, and the patient cannot opt out of the ultrasound and still have the procedure. In effect, then, the legislature has mandated that a woman have an instrument placed in her vagina for no medical benefit. The law makes no exception for victims of rape and incest.

Just when I think that my (current) home state of Arkansas produces the highest grade of foul-hearted “junk law,” our friends to the west do things like this which make me first cringe, then give quiet thanks that I don’t live there. The problem is, though, that some of our own state solons tend to pick up on things like this and introduce them into the legislative session here. I would call this magpie-like behavior, but to do so would slander an inoffensive bird.

In 1991 (the last time I drove through that state) you couldn’t move in Oklahoma for the anti-abortion protesters. It looks as though things haven’t improved for women in Oklahoma.

Once, I was raped.
Twenty years later I was having blader problems and my doc sent me for an ultra sound. It turned out to be a vaginal ultrasound. I felt like committing myself after that. Haven’t been able to get myself to have a medical test of any kind since. A vaginal ultra-sound ain’t no joke. A woman who wants an abortion whose doc doesn’t think it warrants an ultra-sound is being abused by the state if she is forced to have one. Give the law makers a colonoscopy without sedation! Well you know what, I wouldn’t even do that to them. Unless necessary!
