Cycling, the wills and the won’ts

Ed has been undertaking the epic Paris-Roubaix ride. As someone who doesn’t enjoy the odd patch of cobbles around Wapping, this definitely is in my “won’ts”, although good on him!

And once again this year I won’t be making the Dunwich dynamo, although I determined to make it one year.

But I have found some interesting looking night rides around London, the Friday night ride and the Friday night ride to the coast, and I have made a resolution to get one of those in this summer.

Don’t think I’m going to do the Dynamo this year either owing to focus on racing…

…night riding is great fun though, and I hope you get a clear night for whatever ride you go on. Main advice: do take more clothes than you’d think. It gets bloody freezing, especially if it is clear, and also some waterproof stuff. If you can pack a thermos, you’ll be very popular.

Thanks for the tips! (I’ll definitely be aiming for the clear ones – can’t see myself doing it if it is tipping down. Do that occasionally in daylight, but not at night!)

That’s the thing, you sometimes won’t expect the rain… A beautiful sunny day, clear evening, then, at some point, roundabout three in the morning, it starts chucking it down! The mysteries of the British summer.

While you’re on the subject of interesting bike rides, how about this

I plan to go on that one year – not perhaps completely naked, since there is comfort to consider – but something fairly close. It has some very fine principles, plus my feminist side says that if men can go bare-chested, why not women? We’d be a healthier society if we did.
