Carnival of Feminists No 34

Drumroll please…

Over on is A Somewhat Old, But Capacious Handbag the Carnival of Feminists No 34.

What can I say? It is a handbag that you really wouldn’t want to lug around unless you’re seriously into weight-lifting. It’s big; it’s huge; it’s stupendous, and it goes on a long journey around the globe.

So please don’t waste time here – do go over there and check it out!

Feeling old…

Had to throw out my last pair of football socks this morning due to terminal holes – not that they’d been worn for the purpose for which they were designed for many years, but there was still the possibility sitting in the drawer. (The boots are still in the hall cupboard.)

Actually, I think I could still have a season or two in me if I had the time for training and weekend matches, or if the five-a-side football pitches in London (and elsewhere) weren’t all full of males.

But it probably won’t happen. Still, won’t throw out the boots just yet…

Freecycling is its own reward

Having reluctantly decided that I won’t be getting another dog any time soon, I decided to freecycle the half-sack of pigs’ ears in the storeroom – and my reward was a short cuddle with a gorgeous and wildly appreciative white Staffie. Definitely worth the small effort of organisation!

What does a herd of kerfuffles look like?

I’ve been musing on this question – I imagine them as being as fast and agile as mountain-bred goats, but as scatty as little-handled sheep, prone to suddenly fling off in unexpected directions, usually that of a cliff or a boggy piece of ground that you’ll have to spend hours digging them out of. They are impractically white and fluffy, spindly legged and fragile, and with innocent, open faces, such as a child might draw a cow.

I’ve spent nine hours today, formally or informally (two hours in the pub at the end when much work got done) in a meeting today, after being up until 4am finishing a report for it. Does it show?

A “green” print-on-demand T-shirt shop?

Not a big ask, I would have thought: I’m looking for a shop like Cafepress, but offering environmentally friendly products, and in the UK or at a pinch in Europe. There must be such a thing, mustn’t there? If not, I’m giving away the business idea for free.

And while I’m in the “enquiries” mode, can anyone explain why this has appeared in my sidebar since I upgraded to WordPress 2.1?

WordPress database error: [You have an error in your SQL syntax; check the manual that corresponds to your MySQL server version for the right syntax to use near ‘ASC’ at line 1]
SELECT * FROM wp_categories WHERE cat_ID > 0 AND link_count > 0 ORDER BY cat_

ASC

Yes I could try to first find the manual, then try to make sense of it all, but since nothing seems to be actually broken on the site I’m hoping the answer will just appear.

UPDATE: Thanks for the help Sharon and Gavin. There was something wrong with the blogroll code, but since I don’t actually use it – my blogroll is just a straight list, for reasons dating back to sending referrer problems, the code was just sitting there. Once I took it out, the problem disappeared.

Everything at the moment seems to be conspiring to make me more and more techie – I’ve been learning more and more about Joomla, Drupal, back-end content management systems and similar than I really want to know at the moment…

Food and drink…

Have just tried out an excellent gluten-free chocolate cake recipe – definitely recommended, at least if you are feeling flush.

OK – with two bars of cooking chocolate and five eggs you really can’t go wrong. (I didn’t manage to cancel my organic delivery order in time last week so had a surfeit of eggs – that’s my excuse.)

And I found this useful set of directions for late-night drinking in inner-north west London – brings back nostalgic memories of a rather good night in the Ruby Lounge when I was still a London newbie – didn’t know it was still going!
