{"id":2245,"date":"2007-09-19T12:16:18","date_gmt":"2007-09-19T12:16:18","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/philobiblon.co.uk\/?p=2245"},"modified":"2007-09-19T12:16:18","modified_gmt":"2007-09-19T12:16:18","slug":"pleasant-american-surprises","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/philobiblon.co.uk\/?p=2245","title":{"rendered":"Pleasant American surprises"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>It is easy to think of America as the land of Hummer-driving, ginormous burger-eating environmental vandals, but of course there are good green things happening there. <i>The Economist<\/i> this week has two interesting accounts:<\/p>\n<p>* the first big concentrating solar power plant since the 80s (who says solar isn&#8217;t a &#8220;mature technology&#8221;?) has just been <a href = \"http:\/\/www.economist.com\/world\/na\/displaystory.cfm?story_id=9804148\">opened in Nevada<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>* there&#8217;s apparently (by the <i>Economist&#8217;s<\/i> judgement anyway) a <a href = \"http:\/\/www.economist.com\/world\/na\/displaystory.cfm?story_id=9804157\">boom in green building<\/a>.
