Vote Green everywhere

Over on Comment is Free I have my (slightly belated – although I did submit it on Friday) contribution to coverage of the Green Party conference.

It focuses on the slogan “549” seats – a call for a Green to stand in every seat in England and Wales at the next general election. A big ask, but should be doable, I believe.

Blogging/IT Politics

The cowboys are in town

… no I don’t mean that really – just carrying a metaphor on.

The Britblog roundup today is visiting Liberal England, and I also dropped by its specifically Scottish counterpart (notice how carefully I phrased that). Which reminds me to ask if anyone knows any Scottish Green blogs? They must be out there.

And I noticed I’ve acquired a link from a delightfully purposeful blog Crap Cycle Lanes of Croydon, which does exactly what it says on the tin. I’m honoured!

Australia’s shame exposed (again)

Aboriginal health in Australia is far worse than that of indigenous people in New Zealand, Canada and even the US – and the dreadful death rates (20 years earlier than other Australians), and infant mortality (50% higher than in indigenous groups in Canada and NZ) are showing no sign of improvement.

It is something I write about again and again, because I think too many people outside Australia, lulled by its “sunny” image, even with a Howard government, fail to recognise the depths of the shame.

The report in full.
